There's a trick to keeping your beach umbrella firmly planted in the sand, preventing it from being blown over by the sea breeze. Many people simply stick it in the sand haphazardly, and the umbrella flies away with the first gust of wind.

Try these practical and simple tricks to ensure your beach umbrella stays put:

⇨ Core Installation Techniques

Find the "wet sand layer": The surface layer of dry, hot sand is very loose and won't hold the umbrella. Before inserting the umbrella, use your feet to dig away the dry sand on the surface, exposing the darker, damp sand underneath. This layer of sand acts like "glue" to secure the umbrella pole.
Wiggle it down: Don't just push it straight down. Grip the middle of the beach umbrella with both hands, pressing down firmly while wiggling the pole from side to side. This "drilling" motion allows the pole to displace the sand and bury itself deeper.
Depth is key: Laziness is the main reason umbrellas get blown away. At least one-third of the umbrella pole should be buried in the ground. If you find the pole wobbling, it means it's not deep enough; keep drilling it down.

⇨ Reinforcement Tricks

Use a spiral anchor: If your beach umbrella has a spiral base, screw it completely into the sand, like a large screw, until the spiral blades are no longer visible.
Angle it against the wind: This is a secret known only to experienced beachgoers. Don't position the umbrella perpendicular to the ground; instead, tilt the umbrella slightly towards the direction the wind is blowing from. This way, the wind will press the umbrella down into the ground, rather than lifting it up from underneath.
Add weight: After setting up the umbrella, pile the sand you dug up around the base of the pole, compacting it firmly to create a small mound. If you have a cooler or large beach bag, you can also place it on the sand next to the pole to add weight.

⇨ Advanced Stabilization Method

Pour some seawater: If the sand is very dry and loose, you can fetch a bucket of seawater from the beach and pour it around the base of the umbrella pole. The wet sand will quickly collapse and tightly surround the umbrella, becoming as firm as cement once it dries. Hang a heavy object: Many beach umbrellas have frames that allow you to hang things from them. Hang a bag filled with drinks or other items on the downwind side of the umbrella frame. The weight will help anchor the umbrella and provide good wind resistance.
